Little Lehigh
« on: March 29, 2020, 07:19:14 PM »
Ok, been working this for a while.  Allen Martin had one called the fly rod a while back, and I loved it.
Would have done patchbox, cheek piece, etc, but didn't want to cover up this figure.
Sugar maple from Mr Martin, M&G lock, Rice Allentown barrel, (Allen swears this is named after him), White Lightning liner.

Dane

WOW -- that is beautiful figure on that gun.  I agree that no patch box was a good decision.  Leave every bit of that figure for sure.  Well done.

That is a right snappy looking chunk-o-lumber. Sleek and trim indeed.

How about some specifications on it like total length, weight, LOP, barrel dimensions.

Wow.  That came together very nicely.  What caliber might this fine piece be?

Thanks for sharing the photos,

I'll try to answer a few questions.
First of all David, this is partially your fault!  I'm sure you remember the almost non existent web.
Used 6-32 lock bolts, and still had to groove the barrel, AND the front lock bolt as well.
This thing is SKINNY.
Overall length 61", barrel is 45" long, swamped 50 cal, .935 breech, .875 muzzle. LOP 13 ⅜", weight is 7.2 lbs.
Finish on wood is tannic acid, ferric nitrate, Chambers oil finish.
Think that's about it.

Dane

Very nice indeed, Dane. Spectacular piece of wood & a seemingly VERY light barrel.

Man that's beautiful! Incredible wood and architecture!
I just started a similar one this week while waiting for finish to dry on the PA Fowler. My wood has a tight curl, but not like yours, so this one will have a wood PB. A slim Rice .45 x 42" and Haddaway lock.
Hey you gotta keep busy during this stay at home period....or go crazy!

Beautiful!!  I love the slim guns.   I’d have been sweating getting that close to the ramrod hole.

Beautiful figure on that lil shooter. Patchbox would have spoiled it.

I see your point about the M&G lock.  That stock is just gorgeous, thanks for not cutting in a Patchbox, would have been a shame to cover up that grain.

Sharp looking rifle, Dane!  I don’t blame you for not doing a box, that stock is impressive!  Really well done, thanks for sharing!  Best,

Andy that wood is gorgeous! I hope I can get to see it in the near future. We talked about it at AZWINs and really can't wait to see it.
