Handle for Iwasaki rasp
« on: April 02, 2021, 04:37:26 PM »
I was trying to come up with a way to hold a rasp for shaping the sides of a butt stock and had an idea. I copied a handle from one of my old planes that I really liked. I shaped the handle and fitted it to a Iwasaki half round rasp. I them used JB Kwik to attach it. I really like the way it works for those curved sides along the comb and below the cheek.

Now that’s a good idea!  You could glue a ball knob on the front for two hand control, just like a plane.

Greg, Now I should have done that and made it all in one piece. Why didn't I think of that!

I had a buddy who drilled his and put a wooden handle on the end. I can pretty much guarantee you that JB Weld won't hold up to the pressures that I put on a rasp when I'm getting serious with it. Of course I'm a heavy handed oaf too.

I was going to solder a block to file to mount handle to then decided to JB it first. I glued a bunch of stuff with  JB Kwik and love the stuff. If it falls off I'll go the other route.

Golf balls don't allow the file to lay flat on a long surface. They do make a good handle though.

I picked up a Globemaster Power File Handle many years ago for just such use
