Washington Long rifle by J.P. Beck
« on: November 25, 2021, 04:47:40 AM »
It has been some time since I posted, but I wanted to share my current build. I spoke to Paul “ ptk1126” who provided me measurements he took of the George Washington Long rifle at the Frazier Museum. This gun was built by my ancestor and if the story about Washington is true, I cannot think of a cooler rifle to mimic.

I went to see it in Kentucky, took pictures, and received the measurements from Paul.
Then off to select a beautiful piece of maple, brass castings, a Rice barrel “J P Beck” swamp, and a Chambers Deluxe Lock.

Band saw blank to shape, send out to have it in letted, then shaped it with a Japanese
Saw rap and spoke shaves.

I still have some clean up to do with the carvings.

Hope you enjoy!

T. Caster I greatly appreciate it, you do an amazing job! Hopefully one day I’ll be comparable in skill… I have so much to learn. I tried to take all your advise on this build over the past months. But I am extremely happy with the finished product, and including the INRI on the bottom flat, all Those small details really pull it together!

I Came back to do some burnishing with a deer antler. I believe it has sufficient coats of Boiled linseed oil.

I am finished and could not be happier with the turn out!

Looking for criticism to help me learn and improve in the art and mysteries.
