December Postal Match RESULT AND NEW WINNER!
« on: December 01, 2021, 08:08:00 PM »
Let's do something a little different this month. We're going to have an old fashioned rabbit shoot. Down load the target I have posted by simply going to: NMLRA.org/downloads
The target will be right there on the main page. Here are the rules. 25 yards OFFHAND OR OFF A BENCH, must be a squirrel rifle (.36 or smaller) if you don't have one that size shoot the smallest caliber you own (I can't believe with the shooters we've been having that there are any who don't own a small bore rifle). The target says to shoot the target in the prone position, DISREGARD THIS. You get 5 targets ONLY as some people have to drive to a range this makes it fair for all. 5 shots at each target with a possible score of 50-5X using the half ball rule. 1 shot at each of the 5 bulls on the target. Let's get out there and get some "bunnies"!

There might even be a prize for the winner (as the judge I am not eligible but will shoot the targets for no score) as long as we get at least 5 shooters (not counting me). Good luck to everyone who is brave enough to shoot this match!

Looks like a bush bunny to me. Good target.
I've printed off enough for Taylor and I, I think.
I suspect his .25 could get a workout.

Yes I am getting mush brain. I changed the post to say rabbit not squirrel!
It is not offhand vs bench it is either, heck you can shoot prone if you want I just can't get up and down anymore you can lean against a post if you want as long as you are 25 yards away from the target.. I would imagine that most if not all will shoot off a bench. Sorry for any confusion.

Sounds good to me. I haven't benched my .36 yet, at 25 yards.
The last month's target was the first time I benched it at 50. LOL
Looks like a difficult offhand target to me, any more.  40years ago,
easy/peasy.
Considering those X rings and the possibility to get 5, 4-point X's, well
now, THAT's a goal to strive for, from any position.  ;D

Don't presently have a .36, building a .40 flint. Might use my wife's .40. However might just shoot it with a .58. I won't be using a bench, rabbits run to fast for me to set one up. Helping a friend with an elk hunt so hopefully I can make some time. Like the target.

Well I went out today as you never know how many dry days here in Oregon you will get in December. About 55 degrees, slight overcast and zero wind (no excuses). Shot my .32 caliber Mathew Gillespie "tribute rifle" Don Bruton made for me. .310 round ball with a .015 ticking patch with a 50-50 mix of T.O.T.W. Mink and pure Neatsfoot oiled patches 35 grains of GOEX 3F. These scores are not to be counted I just wanted to show some options on the target. I did at first have a little trouble seeing on the "original" target the individual bullseyes, it all seemed to be one big black target. The sun peeked out a little more and I then could see the 5 bullseye's. Just for shucks and grins I pasted orange stickies over the 10 rings on one target. i could see them a little better but frankly not as much as I thought.
Okay everybody bet out there and shoot some rabbits.

Maybe we should keep a target ,next to us on the bench…so we can approximate where the circles are…😃

Scoring yourself a little stiff on the head shot, I see. After enlarging the picture, I have to concur.
Hopefully one of these days Taylor and I can get out.

Ah, I see, You put some florescent stickers on the 10 rings to give a larger aiming point.

Since the orange stickers are the same size as the 10 ring (I poorly drew in the X-ring) I wanted to see if they would show up in my sights better than the all black bullseye. While I did shoot that target slightly better if I hadn't totally missed one of the bulls on my "unaltered" target the scores would have been virtually the same. Not worth the trouble in my humble opinion. Again since my targets don't count I am mostly just playing around.

Suggesting us visual "options", is never a mistake when dealing with US. ;D
Aiming buds or spots as used in chunk shooting, are also useful if the POI is not "right" for whatever range the contest happens to be.

......and that's why we're shooting at 25 not 50 yards. It's not all that hard, if a shaky old man with bad eyes can do it all you Young fella's should ace it.

I'm going to try and shoot it. Both the wife and I both have a few Dr. appointments coming up. I'm trying to find a free afternoon.

Forget the time & tide stuff as our range is still closed for deer season.  I hope to get out next week if the weather cooperates, MM.

Muskrat Mike, I've read a couple of references to the size of the target, we set the PDF file to 100% then print the target. Is this correct?
