After much procrastination (and some sketching), looking at various guns, etc...and some more procrastination, I think I finally found a good combination of what will fit the gun and what I actually have a chance of creating with a reasonable level of success.

First, I was looking at this:
Option A

A quick photoshop on top of the stock picture:

With some tweaking, I think it could work and stylistic, is fairly close.

Then I took a look at option B:

This one I did a rough sketch and I'm a lot more confident that I can pull that off than option A.

I see flaws now that the pictures are posted next to eachother, but I still think I can make that design work.

I've held off working on the gun until I had this sorted out, but I'm now happy enough that I can finalize the shaping, while I work out this design.

Still working on drawings, meanwhile the last major stock work was adding the patch box:

Drill some holes!

Fit the key

File it flat

Roughly shape the cover:

Take 327 attempts to make the spring latch fit and then polish.

(And not sure if embedded videos will work?)

Need a little bit of tweaking of the nose cap and then *just* the detailing to do..and I got about a month to do it, if I want to use it for this years hunting season.

After months of occasionally tweaking the designs, but mostly really procrastinating and not wanting to screw up, I finally committed and got started on the carving and so far so good?

It'll be a little deeper, (and obviously more details added), but the lines don't look horrible, which I'll take as a win.
The new (new) plan is to have this ready for spring bear season.

Very excited to see how this one develops! Thinking hard about a long-barreled germanic/early American rifle myself...

I find a French curve helpful as my natural drawing ability is pretty low.
