Sept 2020 ALR postal match
« on: September 02, 2020, 03:48:50 AM »
I hope this target that I have chosen will be a fun shoot.  Standard 8 x 10 photo copy paper

Off hand at 25 yards.   You can enter up to 4 targets if you want .

It is a 5 of Clubs    One shot at each " club"       Score is as follows:   Ball in the black = 10

Ball touching the black = 9     Ball in the "stem" = 10 X

Ball in the white= 0

I have tried this target before, and it was fun.

I hope my attempt at posting this target work !

I'm offering a brass adjustable powder measure [ Chambers ]  as a prize to the winner.

Okay, I'll be the first to ask, how may points for hitting one of the "little" clubs under each number? Just asking.

Ball in the black of the club = 10 points.  If you want to aim at the little one, go ahead !  ;)

I'm not computer savvy at all, but I did scan the target , which got me a PDF file. Then , after much tinkering, I got it changed into a JPEG file which allowed me to post it as a photo.
I can send it as a PDF file if you send me your e-mail address....or perhaps Daryl can somehow work some magic and make it printable ?

Ok How do I go about printing it?

Do a right click on the photo of the target and chose "save as" then save it to where ever on you computer you wish, I use my photos. Then print the photo.
If you prefer I can mail you the photo.

That's exactly what I did, Dennis. However, once on my desktop, I right clicked on the picture, selected print, then from the print screen, I chose "Letter". That gave me this:

If I enlarged it on my desktop first, then picked print, I got this, quite a difference. Bob will have to decide which one is proper. Looks like my first one was proper.

That i why I am asking. I've had this situation printing other graphics from a page. Different sizes come up on different printers. Maybe give dimension center to center on the top cloverleaves.

The first copy is correct.  The 2nd looks out of proportion re a normal playing card.
Measuring across the horizontal widest point of the " club" is 1 11/16ths inches to my eye.

OK - but I measure the club as being 1.695".  1 11/16th would be 1.688".

Bob - could you measure it with calipers, please?

I measure the little one I posted above as being 1.382".

Hi Daryl and others.   1.695 or 1.7    I guess it depends on the printer.   I don't mind spotting anyone a 5/1000th difference  :)

Bob:  I've a question about the Sept target....

To score a 10, I assume half the ball must be inside the black.  Similarly, for the 10X...half ball to score, otherwise, just a lousy 10.  I understand that just a touch scores 9 on either the bulbous part, or the stem.

N'est pas?

Looks to me like a 30 for the second target, StevenV. So close with the other 2 shots.
Those holes look small. Taylor and I will shoot the target, this coming week.

I enlarged that 2nd target of Steven's , and when I overlay a cutout of the club on that one shot in the
stem, it actually just makes it as an " X "  [ The flair at the bottom of the stem did it ] , so I'm going to call it a 30   X
It's the score to beat so far !

Certainly appears that way to me, Bob. So
30 1X is the score to beat.
I think I'll use my 14 bore rifle, but with 16 bore balls this time.

Taylor and I went out to the range this afternoon to shoot the Postal match. Unfortunately, he grabbed the wrong shooting box
and ended up with a rifle and no "gear" to go with it. He did hang around and watched me shoot. Nice guy. Nothing like a little
stress to go with it.
Anyway, I shot a very poor 'sighting-in target and then this one, not much better, but better.
We scored is as a 37 or 38. No X's. The scoring is up to Bob. The target tore upon removal from the board.
The "0" was my last shot, of course.
We'll try to get out again in the near future.
('Course, he could score that middle target as 2 9's????? LOL)
The larger ball counts on gong targets as well as game animals.

Absolutely, Bob.  I was quite surprised the undersized balls shot as well as they did and with a load that doesn't
seal, however, there must be some decent obturation with those balls as there was no fouling buildup at all.  I will
have to try them at longer ranges.
