That is really wonderful, Raz. This is why you were so quiet the last few days. Beautiful work. Beautiful.

I had to perform adjustments - amendment .  system seems to be an uncomplicated - but this is an illusion . This is a difficult and ambitious project. This is a very valuable experience - it cost me so much work that normally would have built four ordinary wheellock - I had to make adjustments to the plan . This project gave me a lot of invaluable learning. some work waiting for me, but that's way down the hill

Believe me, while viewing this incredible handiwork, at no time did the word "uncomplicated" enter my thinking.
Hats off to you, Master Raz.

Wunderbar, Razpla!
Can't wait to see just how it locks up and what happens to the dog when the wheel is released.

I didn't understand, either. Let me take a guess.

refer to your barrel:

1) Do you twist the barrel to make the spiral pattern?

2) If you do twist the barrel, is a mandrel, or rod, in the bore when you twist it?

Danny, look again at the pictures in the beginning of the thread. I believe these are filed by hand. The spiral does not go all the way around the barrel. When Raz filed the muzzle spiral, the pattern does go all the way around, because it will be exposed beyond the end of the stock.

my guess: saws, drills, files, chisels. I see the remains of the tool marks here and there.  ;)

Raz's metal work appears effortless, like he has some butter-soft metal, but it's either iron or steel. This takes muscle, sharp tools, and time.

We are very fortunate to see the progressive pictures.

cock - 1% C steel (carbon). - It is "hard" steel. - The hardness of steel is an ally. of course - work takes time, and understanding of the tools and steel

 ( cock ) - I cut the power tool.

but the ordinary sculpture work - simple tools 100% (hammer, chisel, file)  --- THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! style of work, cutting lines, climate composition - THIS IS A close link with the working methods .

basic tools = climate of the times of which says "poem - poetry work"

I hope this is understandable

I think many "modern" people look at work like this and believe it to be impossible without CNC machinery, elves, or space aliens. I believe "artistry" is a word too lightly used these days. I'm not a gun builder, but I imagine this puts the hurt of humility on many contemporary "artisans" who start with manufactured barrels, locks, triggers, precarves, and furniture. They might be termed "assemblers." And I'm not trying to take anything away from those who make well constructed arms.

While viewing this thread a comparison came to me. I was thinking about making a fine boxwood baroque recorder with powered lathe and drillpress, as opposed to entirely handmaking a Boehm system flute in gold. It also makes me think I wasted my youth by focusing on security.

I cannot thank you enough for this.
