Let's see your squirrel rifle!!!

New guy here. I hope I'm not stepping on any toes by bumping this thread, but I consider it way too good to let it disappear.
I don't have a real squirrel rifle yet. I would really like to build one, though. .32 caliber or maybe even a .25 or .22.

Not sure about the barrel, bought the rifle from a fine gentleman in Northern Indiana.

Perhaps Bobby Hoyt could make one. Others on this forum will know more than I.

Wow, a fifteen year old  resurrection, a lot sure has transpired in all that time. One small thing was I traded my .36 southern mountain rifle. I missed that .36 caliber so much I made another one, only this time I went from stark to, well, kinda gaudy!

I just went through all 34 pages. Too bad the earlier pictures were lost. I had a similar situation on couple of forum's thanks to Photo Bucket and their free upload service tinypic. Photo Bucket decided to discontinue the free tinypic service and demanded everyone take out the paid service. and wanted $300 holding all my pictures for ransom. Well you can imagine my response to that.

Any way... My "squirrel rifle" is a 32cal CVA cap lock. Not worth taking pictures of. Someone else here mentioned maybe building a .22cal squirrel rifle and I have seen one at one of our muzzle shoots years ago. That was before smart phones with cameras so I didn't get a picture of it but it was really nice flintlock SMR and at the time he wouldn't part with it.

The closest thing I have is one I put together from spare parts on hand and others from eBay & Gunbroker. It has a Thompson Center stock & lock and a 40cal Green Mountain barrel. I made the ram rod out of Derlin with epoxied & pined ends. 
It's accurate as all get and brought home a lot of squirrels when I was still hunting. Now it sits in the round gun rack and occasionally punches paper. I took these pictures a while back to send to someone.

This is my only rifle that has killed a squirrel.
14 bore using a 482gr. round ball and 3 drams (82gr.) 2F GOEX, 1,225fps.

My bro  D. TAYLOR, built me that 14 bore rifle in 1986.  It was a moose smasher for several years  but now, it's just my preferred match rifle for monthly matches along with our annual rendezvous.

A friend and I shot my .38 caliber Lancaster style percussion "conversion" yesterday out to nearly 100 yards and both connected on the maybe 8 inch circular steel plate on our first try. At that distance, you could only faintly hear the still ring, but we had big grins. That was as far as we could attempt from that location.

That was the first time I had ever tried shooting it out that far. I was rather surprised a .375 round ball propelled by 40 grains of 3f didn't have more drop at that distance.

I am afraid to say I cannot show my squirrel rifle that has accounted for an embarrassing number of tree rodents.  It does not use powder or patch, and shoots .177 lead projectiles.  It is a machine for sure.

Seth, great picture. The wood on that rifle, pistol and knife are all very nice. Sounds as if the rifle would be plenty accurate for squirrel hunting.

Thanks! I do love a nice piece of maple. Rifle by Scott Coy with a Hoyt barrel and L&R "classic conversion" lock, knife by Robert Hill, and the pistol is unsigned but a prior owner believes he recalls it was made by Chuck Pizzatola back in the 80s and has an Herman Stone Locks & Stuff Siler lock.

That's a good looking rifle. Just the way I like them, except I prefer percussion.

WECSOG, I like the percussion rifles too. I’ve got a .36 caliber cap gun coming that might be my new favorite. Guess I’d better decide after I shoot it some.

I've posted this rifle before, but it applies to this thread so here goes.
This is my T.Allison Western PA longrifle in .25 cal, Ed Rayl .255" bore @ 44" length.  The rifle weighs 9 1/2 pounds and is an absolute joy to shoot.  I bought the walnut stock and barrel from Chris Laubach from his ad on this site.  We are not permitted to shoot squirrels here..we only have Red Squirrels...they have value for the fur trade still, so are protected unless you are a trapper.  The fur from their tails is used to create sable paint brushes for the artist's trade.  I rust blued the barrel and lock.  The lock is a Classic American Siler lock, modified to English it up a bit, following the examples found in "Gunsmiths of Western PA"
